Syracuse Community Hero

Syracuse Community Hero

Carletta Eure-Rice has been recognized for her fantastic work supporting and feeding the homeless. She is a community hero to many and an inspiration to us all. Man Up offers the chance to celebrate the hard work and dedication demonstrated by Carletta. Prestigious awards are made each year to people. Her tireless work has received praise from Senator Rachel May, 53rd Senate District. On June 6, 2020, it was a huge honor for Carletta to receive the New York State Senate 2020 Commendation Award presented by Senator Rachel May for all the work she does in the community. In 2013, Carletta was deeply honored to be recognized and rewarded for something that is so satisfying and has become part of her daily living as she was a recipient of the “Judy Hines” Mother of the Year Award nominated by the Hines family. Carletta likes to give back when she can. She doesn’t believe she has done anything out of the ordinary. She’d done it because “she had a heart and that’s the way she was brought up.” A homeless man named Tony used to walk past her house every day. She could not sleep knowing there was someone out there going without, she had to make sure Tony’s belly was full. Carletta jumped into action and decided to give Tony something to eat. The homeless man named Tony felt truly humbled by the heartwarming gesture. This lasted about 2 to 3 years. Now Carletta and her family have been serving food to the homeless in need for 5 years. Carletta also started the Halloween Basket giveaway for the kids figuring it was safer for the kids that they did not have to go out trick or treating, on October 31, 2020, it was Happy Halloween at the Rice’s house. They were supposed to pass out 120 Halloween baskets. They ended up passing out 515 baskets. Carletta doesn’t do this for the attention. Carletta’s intentions are clear and she does it because it’s the right thing to do. It’s been a tough time for a lot of people and charity should always start at home. Without her efforts, many people would have had a much harder time and she shows no sign of slowing up. A real person making a real difference.
